Our adoption journey with the Adoption & Family Support Center
As adoptive parents, we had an amazing experience with Adoption and Family Support Center. After having been in the international adoption process for quite some time and experiencing many ups and downs with our agency along with a failed adoption, we knew what we would be looking for in a domestic placing agency.
First and foremost, we wanted to work with an agency that truly cared for and loved the expectant/birth parents. We knew how important it is that the parents who are making an adoption plan receive ongoing counseling and support both before and after delivery. Because we were working with an adoption consultant, we saw situations from several different agencies. We researched and asked questions of all the agencies and talked to other adoptive parents about their experiences.
AFSC had such a good reputation, and we were hoping we would end up being matched with an expectant mother through them… And we were! Our expectations were exceeded when we met our son’s birth mother and she shared about her experience.
It was clear that her case worker, Amanda, as well as the director, Angela, really cared about her and did everything they could to make such a difficult process easier for her. They gently guided her along the way and it was evident that she was never pressured into making an adoption plan. We felt like AFSC operated with the utmost ethical standards and had excellent birth parent care. Those were the two main things we were looking for in an agency. As the adoptive parents, we felt like all of our questions were answered in a timely manner and that we also had a lot of support.
Again, our case worker, Amanda, as well as Angela, Edna, and Elisa, did everything they could to make the process go smoothly for us as well. They were very patient and answered our many questions.
We would work with AFSC again in a heartbeat and are so thankful for the work that they do on behalf of expectant parents exploring an adoption plan, birth parents, adoptive families, and of course, the sweet babies!
